Construction Details
- Filter Plates
The Filter Press consists of a series of filter plates that form individual filtration chambers when compressed together. The plates are selected according to the product characteristics, filtration pressure and required filtration performance.
Available plate materials include:
- Polypropylene (PP)
- Stainless Steel 304
- Stainless Steel 316 / 316L
- Other suitable materials as required
- Filter Cloth
Filter cloth is selected according to the particle size, product viscosity, solids concentration and required filtration grade.
Common filter-media materials include:
- Polypropylene
- Polyester
- Nylon
- Other application-specific filter media
Different micron ratings and cloth constructions can be supplied according to the filtration requirement.
- Filter Frame
The plate pack is mounted on a rigid, heavy-duty frame designed to withstand the required filtration load.
Frame construction options:
- SS 304
- SS 316
- Mild Steel with suitable protective finish
- Plate Closing Arrangement
The filter plates are compressed together to form sealed filtration chambers during operation.
Available closing systems include:
- Manual screw-type closing
- Hydraulic closing
- Customized closing arrangement
- Feed Arrangement
The process slurry or liquid can be introduced into the filter press through:
- Centre feed
- Corner feed
- Customized inlet arrangement
The feed configuration is selected according to the plate design and process requirements.
- Filtrate Collection
After passing through the filter cloth, the clarified liquid flows through the internal filtrate channels and is collected at the outlet.
Available arrangements include:
- Individual filtrate outlets
- Common filtrate manifold
- Open discharge
- Closed discharge
- Filter Cake Removal
During filtration, suspended solids are retained on the filter cloth and form a filter cake. After completion of the filtration cycle, the plate pack is opened and the retained cake is removed manually or through a suitable cake-discharge arrangement.
Filtration Process
The normal filtration cycle consists of the following steps:
- The required filter plates and filter cloths are installed.
- The plate pack is closed and securely compressed.
- Process slurry or liquid is pumped into the filtration chambers.
- Liquid passes through the filter cloth under pressure.
- Suspended solids are retained on the filter cloth.
- Filtered liquid flows through the filtrate channels.
- Clarified liquid is discharged through the filtrate outlet.
- Filtration continues until the required pressure, flow condition or cake thickness is reached.
- The plate pack is opened after completion of filtration.
- Retained filter cake is removed.
- Filter cloths are cleaned or replaced as required.
- The Filter Press is prepared for the next filtration cycle.
